Easily accessible with less than 2 hours drive from our main Lodge. Here you will have the opportunity to go on game drives where you will, if fortunate, be able to view a predator stalking and going in for the kill.
Blyde River Canyon
The Blyde River Canyon is a significant natural feature of South Africa, located in Mpumalanga and forming the northern part of the Drakensberg escarpment. It is 25 kilometers in length and is, on average, around 750 meters deep.
This scenic meander includes the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondawels, Swadini Dam, God’s Window and many beautiful waterfalls as well as spectacular sites. Come and experience a lovely boat ride on the Blyde Dam, where you can savoir the splendor of the Blyde River Canyon.
Here you will be able to spot hippo or crocodile, while the fish eagle’s call clefts the silence in the sky. During the cruise, you can find out more about the rich culture and history of the third biggest canyon and it’s people in the world.
Echo Caves
This underground wonderland was stumbled upon in 1923 by the owner of the farm called Klipfonteinhoek when he was searching for a source of water. Great was his surprise when he realised that some of his cattle had already mysteriously disappeared into the cave. After exploring the cave it was soon realised that this dark underworld carried with it the most beautiful gems of nature. After the completion of the Abel Erasmus Pass and the Strijdom Tunnel in 1959 the cave was opened as a tourist attraction. Later the cave was declared a National Monument.
The name Echo was given to the cave, as a certain stalactite formation produces a distinctive echoing sound when tapped on. This echo can still be heard on the outside of the cave today.
The Big Boabab Tree
The Sunland ‘Big Baobab’ is in Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo Province, South Africa and is famous internationally for being the widest of its species in the world. Africa is often symbolized by these magnificent trees. The Sunland Big Baobab is carbon dated to be well over 1 700 years old and has even made the front page of the Wall Street Journal!
When baobabs become a thousand years old, they begin to hollow inside. In the Big Baobab this has resulted in wonderful caverns and caves, where the world-famous Baobab Tree Bar now amazes visitors.
